CREATIVE ARTS COUNSELLING AND  THERAPY

What is Therapy using the Creative Arts?

Sometimes life can be painful, and we may struggle, but remember that you’re not alone. I combine counselling together with the arts to help you navigate your pain and gain deeper insight into yourself and your healing.

Counselling using the arts is a form of therapy which uses a variety of art forms to help explore difficult emotions, experiences, relationships, and every day stresses. Through the use of drawing, painting, clay, and other creative activities you will be able to express and communicate thoughts and feelings in a safe and contained environment.

Working creatively in therapy can be beneficial for those experiencing a range of psychological difficulties. I work with adults who have experienced traumas such as childhood abuse and domestic violence, adults with complex post-traumatic stress, Post Traumatic Stress, addiction and anxiety. I also work with adults suffering with physical pain and have a diagnosis of EUPD.

You do not need to be good at art. Working creatively through the arts in counselling is open to everyone whatever your experience of art is and regardless of how confident you feel. You and I will talk and think together to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences that come up during the artmaking and when you look at your art work.

About me

I am a warm and person-centred counsellor who provides a safe space for self-expression. I am passionate about creating inclusive environments where everyone can thrive. My integrative approach combines various therapeutic modalities, including humanistic, psychodynamic, and other forms of psychotherapy, all tailored to meet each client’s specific needs.

I have a Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling in the Arts from the University of East-London (UEL) and the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE).

In addition to my counselling work, I am also an experienced teacher who has worked in mainstream education and therapeutically in alternative provisions with pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. I have also worked with pupils who are neurodiverse, and with those from pupil premium and looked-after backgrounds. Although I am currently not working 1:1 with children, I am able to offer workshops with groups in various settings.

Location & Fees

I work 1:1 with individuals both in person and online, or with groups including working therapeutically with the arts in schools, with charities, and in alternative provisions.

Our sessions will take place in the market towns of Bedford or Olney, which is near to Milton Keynes, Wellingborough and Northamptonshire.

.

It is important that we have an initial meeting to understand if you feel working creatively in therapy will be right for you. This will involve a 15-minute online session and will be free. If you then feel this is the right type of therapy for you, we can book in the first 50-minute session.

Fees: Sessions last for 50 minutes and cost from £50 per session. This is payable via bank transfer or cash on the day of the session. Some concessions are available.

Please contact me for any additional information or to make an initial appointment.
